BALTIMORE — Maryland health officials say they believe the state is ready to open its new health insurance marketplace.
Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, Maryland’s health secretary, spoke Monday about the state’s preparations. The marketplace is set to be open online on Tuesday. Health officials also expressed confidence the state is prepared to address bumps in the road relating to any technology problems that could arise.
Sharfstein also announced that Maryland’s exchange will enable people to check and see if a specific doctor they want participates in a particular health plan they are considering.
Officials also say there’s no rush for people to choose a plan. That’s because coverage does not start until Jan. 1. Residents will have until March 31 to sign up for a plan.
