WASHINGTON (CBSDC) - A few giant question marks were left hanging about after the announcement last week that the Capitals would be hosting the 2015 NHL Winter Classic, namely, who they’ll be playing and where they’ll be playing them.
Capitals defenceman Karl Alzner, in an interview with Lavar and Dukes on 106.7 The Fan on Thursday, was asked which opponents he’d prefer to host in the outdoor game.
“I think probably Vancouver or Calgary,” Alzner said. “That’d be kind of cool; play a team from out West, but I don’t think that’s going to happen ever. I’ve heard some rumblings about the Rangers, and I think that would be pretty cool to play them, or get another crack at Pittsburgh. I’m sure they’d probably be a little bit interested in that as well as us. I don’t know when they’re going to name that team that we’re going to play but my guess would probably be that we’re going to get the Rangers, so I think that would be a lot of fun.”
Asked where he thinks the best place would be to play the game, Alzner said, “You know what, I think that probably at Nationals Park, I think it’s a little bit closer to where most of the guys on the team live, and I don’t know exactly what FedEx is like underneath the dressing rooms at all, but I’d imagine it’s not too bad, but I’ve seen the Nats dressing room and that thing is unbelievable, so I’d really like to get in there and be able to play a game with that as our home dressing room.”
