WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – Fifteen percent of Americans are definitely not reading this article.

That’s the percentage of American adults who don’t use the Internet or email at all, according to a new survey from the Pew Research Group’s Internet and American Life Project.

Researchers asked them why they shun the World Wide Web. Thirty-four percent of respondents answered they simply have no need to go online.

Thirty-two percent said it’s too difficult and frustrating, while 19 percent cited the expense of owning a computer and paying for an Internet connection. Only 7 percent lamented a physical lack of access to the Web.

The survey found that of the 85 percent of us who do surf the Internet, 9 percent do not have access or availability at home, most often due to financial issues.
