LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — D.C. and the small screen are one of Hollywood’s hot couples, it seems.
Yet another television show scheduled for release this year is set and filmed in the District.
Veep, a HBO comedy starring Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and House of Cards, Netflix’s popular political thriller, are both set in D.C. and filmed in the area, as well.
Now Amazon is getting in on the action, reports WNEW’s Matt DelSignore.
Alpha House, starring John Goodman, is a new show about four senators sharing a house on Capitol Hill.
The first block of episodes has already been filmed, and the pilot is currently free for download on Amazon Instant Video. More episodes will be available in November.
Crystal Palmer, director of the DC Office of Motion Picture and Television Development, says most shows set in the District actually shoot only 10 to 15 percent of their scenes in the city. That’s not the case with Alpha House, though.
As an on-demand show it has a smaller crew, which helps save money. That makes it more economically feasible for it to shoot on-site, Palmer says.
“We really want to move into that kind of digital media and entertainment,” she added.
