VIDEO: Thieves Taking Valuables from Cars at the Pump

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three times in one day earlier this month, thieves stole items from people’s vehicles as they filled their tanks at the Safeway gas station on Fairwood Parkway in Prince George’s County.

It’s part of trend going on in Prince George’s County and elsewhere, police say.

Laptops, purses and smartphones have been among the nabbed belongings.

Today, community officers are passing out safety flyers at the Bowie gas station that was targeted recently.

They are advising gas station customers to lock their doors, to remove valuables when leaving the car and to avoid distractions such as talking on a cell phone at the pump.

As seen in the security video above, the perpetrators are able to enter the vehicle, remove the items and flee the scene before the victim is even aware of any wrongdoing.
