WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Red, Kenny Joseph Diaz’s favorite color, is the color of mourning today at Woodbridge High School.
Students there are sporting red shoes, shirts and backpacks in his honor, WNEW’s Kevin Patrick reports. The word about the gesture spread via social media.
While Diaz’s classmates are coming to grips with the grim reality of the 18-year-old football player’s murder, which took place just hours after Friday night’s big win, authorities search for answers.
Prince William County Police were called to the Marumsco Acre Lake Park in Woodbridge on Saturday afternoon for the report of a stabbing. They found Diaz, a senior, in the park bleeding from an apparent stab wound to his stomach. He died at a local hospital.
Police are still investigating, and they say the crime does not appear to be random.
