Calif. Man Sentenced for Hauling Hundreds of Pounds of Pot to Va.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — A California man who hauled hundreds of pounds of marijuana to Virginia has been sentenced to one year, two months in federal prison.

A judge in Charlottesville also fined Shad William Dixon of Colton, Calif., $2,000 Tuesday. Dixon also forfeited $30,000.

Dixon pleaded guilty in May to conspiracy to distribute marijuana.

According to court records, Dixon was paid thousands of dollars to transport marijuana in his recreational vehicle from California to Charlottesville. He was making his fourth such trip last October when he was busted during a traffic stop in Oklahoma. Police there found 140 pounds of marijuana in the RV.

Two co-defendants also pleaded guilty to marijuana-related charges. Christopher Bishop was sentenced to three years and one month. David Frank Patterson will be sentenced Sept. 27.
