Brazil Pols Authorize Moscow Trip To Interview Snowden About Spying
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — The foreign relations and defense commission of Brazil’s lower house has authorized an official trip by legislators to go to Moscow to interview National Security Agency leaker Edward Snowden about spying on Brazil.
However, officials say no date has been set and it would require the approval of Russian authorities for the Brazilian delegation to speak with Snowden.
Deputy Ivan Valente said Wednesday that officials must speak with Snowden because revelations of NSA spying on Brazil have shown “the total vulnerability” of communications for the government and private citizens alike.
Reports based on leaked Snowden documents indicate Brazil is the top Latin American target for U.S. spying.
