WASHINGTON  — Officials are getting ready for the eighth annual Events D.C. Nation’s Triathlon in Washington.

The triathlon will take place Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The course includes a swim in the Potomac River, a 10k run and a bike course that goes through the city and briefly into Virginia.

More than 5,000 people are expected to participate in the race, which benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. When the triathlon debuted in 2006 fewer than 500 people participated.
