LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Thursday night will be a battle of Mike Shanahans in Tampa Bay.
In one corner is the Super Bowl winning head coach of the Washington Redskins. In the opposing corner is the recently signed Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end of the same name.
The Buccaneers added the rookie Shanahan to the roster on Monday while releasing seven others ahead of Tuesday’s mandatory roster reduction from 90 players to 75.
The undrafted rookie from Pitt originally signed with the New York Jets where he caught one pass in a single preseason appearance. The team placed him on waivers last Friday.
The Redskins coach and player share the name, but have no relation.
Washington and Tampa complete their preseason Thursday night at Raymond James Stadium.
