LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An argument between two men at Laurel Park escalated into one of them charging the other with a pitchfork early Monday morning, police said.

The two men, both of whom work at the race track, got in a heated argument at the track around 5 a.m., according to Anne Arundel County police. The argument turned violent when 60-year-old Jose Maria Colindres Salazar punched a 27-year-old man and then charged at him with a pitchfork, police said. The man told police he was able to fend off Salazar before striking him with an object and fleeing the area.

Officers arrested Salazar and transported him to the hospital for treatment of his injury. He is charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment.

The other man was not injured, police said.

The race track is located in the 3600 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road in Laurel.
