Cousins, Cofield, Royster Out for Redskins
LANDOVER, Md. (CBSDC) — The Washington Redskins have officially ruled out Kirk Cousins for Saturday’s preseason contest against the Buffalo Bills. The backup quarterback will join Robert Griffin III on the sidelines after sustaining a mid-foot sprain against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Rex Grossman will serve as the starter and is expected to play roughly a half before turning the reigns over to Pat White.
Defensive tackle Barry Cofield will not play after sustaining a hand fracture in the team’s win over the Steelers. Chris Neild will start in his place.
Running back Evan Royster has also been ruled out for the contest. Royster was limited to special teams against the Steelers and did not have any rushing attempts. It is not immediately clear why the third-year back will not play.
Kedric Golston is expected to start in place of Jarvis Jenkins at left defensive end while Reed Doughty will start in place of the still ailing Meriweather at strong safety.
The following Redskins are also not expected to play:
S Brandon Meriweather
CB Ryan Mouton
S Phillip Thomas
LB Jeremy Kimbrough
LB Roddrick Muckelroy
OL Jacolby Ashworth
NT Barry Cofield
The Buffalo Bills are also down a quarterback with E.J. Manuel sidelined. Defensive end Kourtnei Brown and tackle Chris Hairston will also not play for Buffalo.
