WASHINGTON — A D.C. firefighter is accusing the fire chief of injuring him when he grabbed the firefighter’s cellphone at the scene of an ambulance fire.

Firefighter Sean Christopher Griffith filed a complaint with police Tuesday. The public version of the complaint does not name Chief Kenneth Ellerbe, but the chief has said an assault allegation had been made against him. Ellerbe says he didn’t snatch the phone. He says he asked for the phone and the firefighter gave it to him.

The complaint says a suspect grabbed Griffith’s phone after confronting firefighters about a picture of the burning ambulance that appeared on the firefighters union’s Twitter account. Griffith says he sought medical attention.

D.C. police will investigate the claim and consult with the U.S. attorney’s office. No charges have been filed.
