Inmate Stabbed at Hagerstown Prison

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — Authorities say an inmate has been stabbed at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in Hagerstown.

The Herald-Mail reports ( ) that the inmate was stabbed Monday night and a helicopter was called in to fly the inmate to a hospital.

Mark Vernarelli, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, says the injury is not thought to be life threatening, but officials were concerned that the inmate’s lung might be punctured.

It is the third stabbing reported at state prisons in Washington County since July.
