Construction Worker Dies After Trench Collapse in Va.

McLEAN, Va. — Police have identified the man who died at a residential construction site in McLean Tuesday.

The victim is identified as Juan Francisco Cerna Alfaro, 36, of Falls Church.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Bud Walker said police were called to a home Tuesday morning on Kinglet Court in McLean.

Officers and fire crews arrived to find Alfaro dead in a 15-foot trench next to a home on the street.

Walker says the investigation is in its early stages, but it appears that Alfaro and several co-workers were digging the trench when he fell in, causing dirt to collapse around him.

Police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the death.

A similar accident occurred in Severn, Md. Monday.
