Redskins Notes: RGIII In Uniform for ‘Operation Patience,’ Orakpo Out

by Chuck Carroll

LANDOVER, Md. (CBSDC) — Here are few notes and nuggets to pass along before the Washington Redskins face the Pittsburgh Steelers in their home preseason opener.

Robert Griffin III – Griffin is again in full uniform for the game although he will not play. He received a solid ovation as he ran out of the tunnel with the other quarterbacks.

Earlier in warmups, he was sporting t-shirts that read “Operation Patience.”

Ruled Out In addition to Griffin, linebacker Brian Orakpo will also be sidelined. Also not playing are Donté Stallworth, Josh Wilson, Brandon Meriweather, Ryan Mouton, Phillip Thomas, Jeremy Kimbrough, Keenan Robinson, Roddrick Muckelroy, Emmanuel Ogbuehi and Nick Barnett.

Quarterbacks – Kirk Cousins is expected to play for about a half tonight. Rex Grossman and Pat White will split time in the second half.

Danny Smith – The former Redskins special teams coordinator caught up with many of his former colleagues on the field including defensive coordinator Jim Haslett and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Smith departed for the Steelers in January after nine seasons in Washington.

Playing surface – The field looks to be in significantly better shape compared to the last game played at FedEx Field. The highly criticized poor field conditions were blamed, in part, for Robert Griffin III’s knee injury.

Super Agent – Drew Rosenhaus is in the house. He was snapped speaking with client Santana Moss on the field.
