SEVERN, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — A construction worker died after a trench collapsed and buried him outside a home in Anne Arundel County on Monday morning, authorities said.

The 25-year-old man was working in a 7-foot deep trench behind a home in the 1000 block of Leyton Lane in Severn at about 10 a.m. when the dirt surrounding the trench suddenly collapsed, burying him, according to Anne Arundel County Fire Division Chief Keith Swindle.

The company the man worked for had been contracted to construct a deck at the residence, officials said.

It took 45 personnel, including teams from Anne Arundel and Howard counties, about 3-and-a-half hours to recover the man’s body, officials said.

No other injuries were reported. Maryland Occupation Safety and Health (MOSH) are currently investigating the incident.
