LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC/AP) — As the Redskins prepare to play their first preseason home game tonight against the Pittsburgh Steelers, FedExField reminds fans who will be in attendance of the NFL’s new security policy.
Starting this year, the only bags that can be taken into all NFL stadiums are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC that don’t exceed 12 inches by 6 inches by 12 inches, including one-gallon clear plastic freezer bags. Also permissible are small clutch bags, no larger than 4.5 inches by 6.5 inches.
“This proactive measure both will enhance safety inside and outside the stadium and speed the security screening process for all NFL fans,” according to the NFL website. “The public deserves to be in a safe, secure environment. This is about both safety and improving the overall fan experience.”
NFL teams sent reminders of the new policy with season ticket renewals and also used the media to spread the word. Signs will be in stadium parking lots in the preseason and regular season, and the NFL hopes each team will be able to hand out fliers about the limitations.
Permissible bags with team logos on them are available at NFLShop.com.
