WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The body of a 25-year-old man who went missing in the Anacostia River on Saturday has been recovered and brought to shore.
Three relatives, all in their 20’s, were jumping off a sea wall into the water at the Bladensburg Marina in the 4600 block of Annapolis Road, when one of them experienced distress and went under around 2:30 p.m.
The two other men searched for him but were unable to find him.[audio http://cbswashington.files.wordpress.com/2013/08/bladensburg-body-found.mp3|titles=Body Located in Bladensburg Marina|artists=Cameron Thompson / All-News 99.1 WNEW|width=425px|animation=no]
Several civilian boats, along with rescue crews equipped with scuba gear assisted in the search, which wrapped up around 4:30 p.m. when the body was recovered and brought ashore.
Prince George’s County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor says that although the water can reach as deep as 30 feet in the center of the channel, the area where the body was located was around 9-feet deep, with loose, heavy silt at the bottom.
Swimming is not allowed at this portion of the river.
