Nearly 1,000 Dead Fish Found Floating on National Mall

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — A large scale cleanup is underway on the National Mall to rid the Constitutional Gardens pond of about 1,000 dead fish.

The National Park Service says it will test algae levels in the pond to determine whether the organism was a contributing factor in the death of the fish.

It could take several days to figure out the cause, but officials say this isn’t the first time a massive fish kill has happened at the pond.

The park service plans to redesign the pond to prevent this from happening again.
