WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — A long-standing barricade situation led police to close roads in southeast Washington for hours early Wednesday morning.
A man barricaded himself inside a residence in the 1300 block of East Capitol Street after police say they tried to serve a warrant on him at about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. SWAT negotiators arrived around midnight.
Police say the man, who was armed with a registered gun, held a woman against her will in the apartment but allowed her to leave shortly after the standoff began.
The man surrendered and was taken into police custody around 8:40 a.m., bringing the near 10-hour standoff to a close.
Police identified the man as 25-year-old David Joseph Robertson. Robertson was facing a charge of assault on a police officer. A judge issued a bench warrant for his arrest after he failed to appear in court.
Reached by telephone, Robertson’s lawyer said he wasn’t aware of the situation and declined comment.
