LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Many Americans, especially white Americans, have no friends outside of their own racial group, according to a new Reuters poll.

The rolling poll has been collecting data since July 24, and reveals that about 43 percent of whites and have no friends of other races, compared with 22 percent of non-whites.

Only about 19 percent of whites report that they have five or more friends of other races, while the same is true for 30 percent of blacks and 23 percent of Hispanics.

Reuters reports that, by region, residents of Pacific states tend to have the most diverse friend groups. The South has the lowest percentage of people with several friends in other racial groups.

Respondents in higher income brackets have more friends of other races than those in lower income brackets. About 36 percent of those making $50,000 or less per year say they have no friends of other races, while the same is true for only 29 percent of those making $75,000 or more.
