LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — An elementary school music teacher in Silver Spring is facing numerous charges related to a string of sexual assaults on 14 female students that occurred between 2005 and 2013.

A 15th student, who is now an adult, was reportedly victimized over a three-year period in the 1990s, police say.

Lawrence Wesley Joynes, 54, assaulted the girls in his music classroom at New Hampshire Estates Elementary School and elsewhere on the grounds, police say. The girls range in age from kindergarten to second grade.

Joynes had been a teacher with Montgomery County Public Schools for 27 years and assigned to New Hampshire Estates Elementary School for approximately 10 years.

In February, Homeland Security and Baltimore County Police discovered videos and images depicting child pornography in both his residence and classroom. Fourteen victims were able to be identified using the images, police say.

Authorities have charged Joynes with 14 counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count of third-degree sex offense, child abuse and second degree rape. He is currently being held at the Baltimore County Detention Center.

Montgomery County Police ask anyone who may have been victimized by Joynes to call 240-773-5400.
