Capitol Hill Intern Attempts to Crowdfund Unpaid Internship
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — They say money can’t buy happiness, but it might buy one Nevada college student academic success.
Jessica Padron, who attends the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, started a crowdfunding campaign on indiegogo.com to raise the funds she needs to spend four months working and living in D.C. as an unpaid Capitol Hill intern.
TheHill.com reports that Padron will be working in the office Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Her funding goal is set at $6,500, and more than half of that amount has already been donated with about two weeks left to go in her campaign.
“IF I DON’T REACH MY GOAL…. I will be forced to relinquish this opportunity and miss out on this once in a lifetime chance to take advantage of this crucial career move without loans,” Padron writes on her campaign page.
She also says that she is the first member of her family to attend a university, and that she got hooked on politics at the tender age of 8 when her mother volunteered at a phone bank for a presidential campaign.
