LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three towns in the D.C. region have made CNN’s annual list of the 50 Best Places to Live in America.

A similar list has been released each year for the last quarter century. This year, CNN focused on small towns, or those with populations between 10,000 and 50,000.

“America’s top 50 small towns are not only thriving economically, they’ve also got all you could want in a place to raise a family: plenty of green space, good schools, and a strong sense of community,” the list says.

Vienna, Va., is the only local place in the top 10, but Leesburg, Va., and Montgomery Village, Md., also made the list.

With a population of 16,285 and a median home price of $550,000, “Vienna offers walkability, a historic center, and unique businesses that give Vienna an identity all its own,” according to the rankings.

“A town green anchors the community and serves as a gathering spot for local events, like the Concerts on the Green summer series. A 45-mile bike path and park built on the roadbed of a former railroad cuts right through town, and downtown is dotted with one-of-a-kind stores and homegrown eateries. The small-town feel comes with access to all the D.C. metro area attractions.”

CNN says Vienna, which is third on the list, is also less “cookie-cutter” than other Northern Virginia suburbs.

Meanwhile, about 30 miles north in Loudoun County, about 46,140 Leesburg residents enjoy a “charming downtown” that dates back to 1758. “Other perks include the town’s proximity to the Virginia wine country and an award-winning farmers’ market.”

The median home price in Leesburg, which is ranked #35 on the list, hovers around $322,500.

Montgomery Village, in Montgomery County, Md., is the only Maryland town on the list, coming in at #41.

The planned community is mostly a mix of condos, apartments and townhomes, with features like community centers, pools and tennis courts. It’s less than an hour from D.C. and Baltimore, but it also houses a handful of its own firms. The median home price is $202,000.
