WASHINGTON (AP) — Hillary Rodham Clinton plans to headline her first political event since leaving the State Department, raising money for Virginia gubernatorial candidate Terry McAuliffe.
Two Democratic officials familiar with the plans say Clinton will hold a small fundraising reception at her Washington, D.C., home on Sept. 30. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly about the event.
McAuliffe is a longtime Clinton friend and former Democratic National Committee chairman. He faces Republican state Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli in the fall election.
Clinton has avoided political gatherings since departing as President Barack Obama’s secretary of state this year.
She is considered the Democrats’ leading contender for the White House in 2016 but has not announced her intentions.
The fundraiser was first reported by Politico.
