WASHINGTON (CBSDC/AP) — Six people, including three children, were injured during an overnight fire in southeast D.C.
The fire broke out around 12:30 a.m. Thursday inside a brick apartment building in 2800 block of Denver Street, authorities say. Officials say some residents were trapped and were hanging out of second-floor windows when firefighters arrived.
A neighbor says they believe a person who lives in the apartment may be to blame for the fire. She says this is not the first time there has been a blaze at the building.
Police tell WNEW they are treating the area as a crime scene and investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.
The injured residents have been taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
Eight people have been displaced as a result of the fire. All units in the building were destroyed.
