Attempted Robbery, Police Shootout in Southeast D.C.

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — Three people are in custody following a shootout with police that began with an attempted robbery Wednesday night in southeast D.C.

Police say the three men shot a boy while attempting to rob him around 10 p.m. near Minnesota Avenue and Ely Place SE.

At least one suspect fled the scene in a car, which wrecked a short time later at the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and Eastern Avenue.

Authorities say at least one of the other suspects then barricaded himself inside a home in the 300 block of 34th Street SE and began shooting at responding officers.

Police say nobody was struck as officers and the suspects exchanged gunfire.

Two of the suspects were taken into custody in Prince George’s County and a third was apprehended in the District, police say.

The age of the juvenile robbery victim was not immediately known. Police say he was taken to a hospital but was not seriously injured.
