Tuberculosis Diagnosed at Md. High School
PARKVILLE, Md. — Baltimore County public health officials are recommending that about 60 people get screened for tuberculosis after a case was reported at a high school.
The Department of Health said Friday that someone in the Parkville High School community had been diagnosed with the disease. Officials say that it is difficult to contract TB through typical school interactions, some 60 possible contacts were being mailed letters recommending testing for TB.
The Health Department said tuberculosis is caused by bacteria that usually affect the lungs. A person needs to be in close contact for an extended amount of time to become infected.
