LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Two men drove a pickup truck through the front of an Exxon gas station and stole the ATM inside during a bold early morning robbery in Fort Washington, police say.
A similar robbery was reported at a gas station in northeast Washington just hours later.
Prince George’s County detectives are working to determine whether the two incidents are related.
In the first case, a dark-colored pickup traveling in reverse smashed into the station convenience store around 3:45 a.m. Two masked men then hoisted the ATM into the back of the truck and drove away, police say.
Moulton Kim, who owns the gas station located in the 10800 block of Indian Head Highway, was working in the back at the time of robbery.
“I was in the back room. When I open the door and came out the were already picking up the ATM machine, loading it up into the pickup truck,” said Kim.
It took just moments for the men to carry out the robbery.
Authorities say the machine contained roughly $1,500.
In the second case, police say two men in a large, black pick up truck stole an ATM from the Stadium Exxon in the 2600 block of Benning Road NE.
At least one of the men was wearing a mask.
No injuries were reported in either incident.
