LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Fairfax County Police are trying to identify the attackers responsible for a brutal beating of a man that was caught on camera Monday night in Springfield. The identity of the victim also remains a mystery.

The video, captured by security cameras installed outside of a home in the 5200 block of Inverchapel Road, shows what appears to be young man attempting to back away from a group of people before he was attacked. The group punched, kicked and stomped the man after he was on the ground.

The beating lasts for roughly 30 seconds before the group quickly dispersed and fled the scene.

The victim was able to leave the area under his own power before police arrived.

It appears many of the young people had beverages in their hands during the altercation while others took pictures and video of the melee using cell phones.

Police are hoping a drivers license recovered at the scene will lead to a break in the case, WUSA9 reports.

The assault remains under investigation. Detectives ask anyone with information to contact police.
