Biden Meets With Lawmakers On Improving US Embassy Security

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden has met with top lawmakers to discuss security for American embassies and diplomats.

The Wednesday session came a day before the House and Senate foreign relations panels are set to consider bills dealing with embassy security. The Senate bill is named after the four Americans who were killed last year in an assault on the U.S. mission in Benghazi, Libya.

The White House says Biden gave lawmakers an update on what the Obama administration is doing to improve security.

Congressional aides say it was a classified briefing. They say the chairmen and ranking members of national security-related committees were invited.

Aides say lawmakers and Biden discussed implementing recommendations from an investigative panel that issued a scathing report faulting the State Department for inadequate security.
