LEESBURG, Va. — A man involved in a beating that killed a Loudoun County man and severely injured his wife has been sentenced to more than 40 years in prison.

Darwin Bowman was sentenced Friday in Loudoun County Circuit Court for his involvement in the 2009 beating that left 57-year-old William Bennett dead. Bennett’s wife, 55-year-old Cynthia Bennett, was severely injured. The couple was taking an early morning walk when they were beaten.

Bowman’s sentence of 43 years and five months was the maximum under a plea agreement. The 22-year-old from Sterling is the second suspect to take a deal in exchange for not having to face a capital murder charge. A third suspect, Anthony Roberts of Middleburg, has not yet been charged but is in prison for another crime.
