NORFOLK, Va. — Early-morning commuters on Amtrak from Norfolk to Washington, D.C., can hit the snooze button one more time starting next week.

Amtrak says recently completed track improvements have shaved 10 minutes off the trip. That means Amtrak Virginia Train 174 will leave at 5 a.m. instead of 4:50 a.m.

Thelma Drake is director of the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. She says the later departure will not change existing arrival times along the route.

Since it started in December 2012, more than 70,000 passengers have traveled on the passenger rail service route between Washington, D.C., and Norfolk.
