LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) – The National Zoo’s panda cams are back online after going dark in late May.

Fans of the zoo’s giant pandas, Mei Xiang and Tian Tian, can stream live video on any computer, tablet or mobile device without having to refresh the page.

The cameras also got an upgrade, now giving viewers a high-definition experience.

Caretakers will use the panda cams to monitor the behavior of the pandas, especially as Mei Xiang begins to build a nest and possibly give birth.

Mei Xiang will spend more time in the den closer to the end of breeding season. The cameras will make it easier for fans to see her.

Currently, scientists are using ultrasound video of Mei Xiang in search of a fetus, but they say it is too early to tell.
