WASHINGTON — The National Zoo in Washington says its female cheetah named Tumai has died.
The zoo announced the death of the 13-year-old cheetah Friday. The zoo says preliminary results from a necropsy indicate that a tumor caused the cheetah’s spleen to rupture.
Tumai arrived at the National Zoo in May 2004 from the Phoenix Zoo. She gave birth to the zoo’s first litter of cheetah cubs that November.
Five other cheetahs live at the zoo.
