Md. County Exec. Wants Concert Canceled Due To Band’s Homophobic Lyrics
SILVER SPRING, Md. — Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett wants a Silver Spring concert venue to cancel next month’s show by the Mexican band Molotov because of homophobic lyrics in one of the band’s songs.
The Washington Post reports the rap-metal band is scheduled to play at The Fillmore Silver Spring on Aug. 26. Leggett wrote in a letter Thursday to the general manager at the Fillmore that he has serious concerns about the booking and is “personally offended.”
The county owns the Fillmore building and leases it for $90,000 a year to Live Nation. The rental agreement doesn’t give Montgomery officials any say in the content of the bookings.
The venue’s general manager, Stephanie Steele, did not return calls from the paper. A Live Nation spokesman says the performance won’t be canceled.
