GAITHERSBURG, Md. (CBSDC) — The body of an adult male has been pulled from a drainage pond in Gaithersburg, according to Montgomery County police.

Authorities received a call about the body from a passerby shortly after 12:30 p.m. Sunday. While the pond is located in the popular Nike Missile park, near the 8500 block of Snouffer School Road, it is not used for swimming or other recreational activities, police spokesman Capt. Jim Daly said.

The medical examiner’s office has yet to determine the man’s cause of death.

“We are looking into related missing person cases from this area,” Daly said.

He noted that some clothing was found in the area Friday evening, and said authorities are looking into whether that could be related to this case.

Neighbors tell WNEW’s George Mesthos that they heard shots being fired in the area early Sunday morning.

The Montgomery County Police Department has released photos (below) of the clothes found in the area Friday and the decedent’s tattoos in the hopes that someone can help identify the man. Anyone with information is asked to call authorities at 301-279-8000.
