Metro to Allow Water Due to Extreme Heat

LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Metro is relaxing its “no eating or drinking” policy due to the excessive heat.

Riders will be allowed to carry and drink water on Metro’s trains and buses through Friday, according to WMATA. The exception applies to water only.

The transit authority urges riders to use reusable water bottles or bottles that can be tightly secured and to use trash receptacles to dispose of any waste.

Temperatures for the D.C. area are expected to be in the high 90s throughout the week and the humidity will push the heat index above 100 degrees.
