LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — A man was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle collided with a truck in Howard County, police say.

An adult male was driving his motorcycle north on U.S. 1 in Elkridge when he collided with a truck turning left from southbound U.S. 1 onto Kit Kat Road just after noon Tuesday, according to police.

The motorcycle operator was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld by police until next of kin is notified.

The driver of the truck, 53-year-old Alvarado Gonzalez, of Alexandria, Va., was not injured. Police say the truck is owned by Georgetown Paper Stock.

A preliminary investigation indicates the speed of the motorcycle was a contributing factor to the crash, police say.

U.S. 1 is currently closed at MD 103 as the investigation continues.
