D.C. Police Investigate 4 Shootings, 2 Fatal

WASHINGTON — D.C. police are investigating four shootings, two of them fatal, in different parts of the city.

Police say shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday, an 18-year-old man was shot in the chest in the Columbia Heights neighborhood. He was taken to a hospital by a private vehicle, and he died there. Police and D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham identified the teen as Anthony Sanchez, who was a ward of the Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services. Graham says Sanchez lived in a DYRS group home and had a pass to leave.

Around 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning, police say two men were shot in Southeast Washington. One of the men, 30-year-old Derrick Scott of Capitol Heights, Md., later died.

There were two other shootings early Saturday that led to non-life-threatening injuries.
