Hyattsville Robbery Attempt Thwarted When Victim Grabs Gun
LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Two would-be robbers had the tables turned on them after their gun wound up in the hands of a man they were attempting to rob Monday night in Hyattsville, Md.
Police say two men approached a couple as they were leaving their vehicle in the 5600 block of 30th Avenue shortly before 10 p.m.
As one of the robbers pulled a handgun on the couple and demanded their property, the man fought back and gained control of the weapon following a brief struggle. The second robber continued toward the man at which point he fired the gun at both suspects.
The robbers then fled the scene on foot, police say.
The first suspect is described as a black man in his 30′s with a neatly trimmed beard. He was wearing a FedEx shirt at the time of the incident.
The second suspected is described as a tall black man who was possibly wearing a work shirt.
The couple was not injured during the altercation.
The investigation into the attempted robbery continues.
