Passengers Stuck Overnight on Train in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. — Axle problems left more than 200 passengers stuck on an Amtrak train for hours outside Richmond.

Amtrak spokesman Cliff Cole says the dining car developed axle problems that disabled the Silver Service train 2 miles north of Richmond around 8 p.m. Sunday.

Cole says the car couldn’t be moved or removed, so the train slowly began moving to a siding in Richmond at 3:45 a.m. Monday. It arrived around 6:30 a.m.

The train was traveling from New York City to Miami with 261 passengers. Cole says a replacement car has been coupled to the train and it’s ready to continue the trip.

Cole says electricity and air conditioning were maintained throughout the delay.

He says Amtrak apologizes for the inconvenience.
