MONTCLAIR, Va. — The bodies of a woman and her daughter have been found in a Prince William County lake.

Prince William County Police said that a police scuba team found the bodies shortly after 6 a.m. Friday close to a dock near the family’s home on Lake Montclair. Police identified the victims as Grace Darlene Shields, 40, and 6-year-old Raina Alexandra Shields.

Police say that neighbors found a 9-year-old girl screaming at the top of a walkway leading to the lake at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Neighbors took the girl home to wait for the child’s family to return. When the family did not return and could not be found, the neighbors called police.

The 9-year-old has a developmental disability that made it impossible to communicate with her, police said. Shields and the two girls were the only people living in the home, police said.

A search was conducted by helicopter overnight, and the scuba team went out at daybreak Friday.
