LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Three teens were injured when a car they were traveling in collided with a tractor-trailer in Landover late Tuesday night, Prince George’s County fire officials say.

Shortly before midnight the car became wedged underneath the tractor-trailer, which was carrying material used in mattresses, in the 8400 block of Ardwick-Ardmore Road, officials say.

Traffic in both directions was blocked between Pennsy Drive and Martin Luther King for hours as authorities investigated the crash. It has since reopened.

The teens suffered serious injuries, but were able to escape the wreckage before both vehicles burst into flames, authorities say. Firefighters say it took 20 minutes to extinguish the flames.

One of the teens was flown to a trauma center in Baltimore. All three remain hospitalized.

Fire officials say the driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured in the crash.
