LANHAM, Md. (CBSDC) — Police have released a sketch of a suspect wanted in the sexual assault of a girl last month in Maryland.

Prince George’s County police are hoping the release of the sketch will help lead to the identity of the suspect. The man is wanted for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl June 22 in Upper Marlboro.

Police describe the suspect as a white male with an average build. At the time of the assault, he had short cropped hair with a receding hair line and a goatee-style salt and pepper beard. He also had a piercing in his tongue that police describe as a round ball.

The girl was assaulted behind a building in the 8800 block of Heathermore Boulevard in the Marlton neighborhood of Upper Marlboro at about 3 p.m. June 22, police said. The girl had been out playing with friends and was riding a scooter around the complex when the man approached her.

Detectives are investigating the case and are asking the community to continue providing critical information.

Police are asking anyone with information on the suspect’s identity to contact the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Sexual Assault Unit at 301-772-4908. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can call Crime Solvers at 1-866-411-TIPS.

A cash reward is being offered in this case, police said.
