Former Obama, Clinton Staffer Announces Candidacy for D.C. Mayor

WASHINGTON — An attorney who has worked in the Obama and Clinton administrations is running for mayor of the District of Columbia.

Reta Jo Lewis announced her candidacy Tuesday on her campaign website and on Twitter and Facebook. It’s her first bid for elective office in the city.

Lewis served as a special representative for global intergovernmental affairs at the State Department under former secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton. She also worked in President Bill Clinton’s administration as a special assistant. She has lived in Washington for 35 years.

Lewis becomes the fourth declared candidate for mayor, joining D.C. councilmembers Muriel Bowser, Jack Evans and Tommy Wells. Mayor Vincent Gray has not said whether he plans to seek re-election.
