WASHINGTON — A small black bear that ran for more than an hour through yards in the northwest part of the District has been captured and returned to the wild in western Montgomery County.
Police and animal control officials began their pursuit of the 100-pound animal about 9 a.m. Wednesday when the bear was spotted running on Rockwood Parkway.
The bear darted into a stand of bamboo in a backyard and was tranquilized. Officials cut down the bamboo and took the sleeping bear into custody.
Earlier in June, a bear was spotted in a residential area of Gaithersburg, Md. for three consecutive days.
