‘Dance Day’ to Feature All-Day Event in D.C.
WASHINGTON — Arts centers in Los Angeles and Washington are planning daylong celebrations with the creators of TV’s “So You Think You Can Dance” to mark National Dance Day next month.
The Kennedy Center in Washington and the Music Center in Los Angeles will host all-day events July 27. Celebrity judges from “So You Think You Can Dance” will teach dance moves through instructional videos.
The Kennedy Center will feature outdoor performances, dance lessons and a free evening performance by the Hip-Hop group Culture Shock and tap dancing duo the Manzari Brothers. Outdoor dance lessons will continue into the night with performances by Arturo O’Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra.
In 2010, District of Columbia Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton introduced a resolution in Congress to create National Dance Day.
