‘Money’ Mayweather, Alvarez to Meet in D.C. on Tuesday
WASHINGTON (CBSDC) — The anticipation is building for the mega-fight between eight-time, five-division World Champion Floyd “Money” Mayweather and Super Welterweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez as they officially announce their upcoming bout.
A press conference will be held in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, June 25 to get fans in on the excitement. Fans can begin arriving at the Howard Theatre at 620 T St. NW at noon before Mayweather and Alvarez come out at 1 p.m. to put the world on notice for the biggest fight of the year. The event is free and open to the public.
Mayweather holds a perfect 44-0 record as a pro and is widely considered the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world. The 36-year-old will face one of his toughest challenges yet from the 22-year-old Alvarez, who has already put together a formidable 42-0-1 record.
The press conference is part of an ambitious media tour spanning 11 cities and two countries in advance of the main event Sept. 14 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. There hasn’t been a promotional tour on this scale since Mayweather and Oscar de la Hoya visited 11 cities before their 2007 showdown.
With the WBA Super Light Middleweight title on the line, this fight has the potential to be an instant classic, and it all starts in D.C.
